On July 10, Norway’s fully enclosed deep-sea aquaculture equipment “Marine Donut” was officially delivered to Salmon producer SalMar and installed at the farm in Romsdal Fjord, Norway.

Marine Donut is designed and manufactured by Norwegian equipment manufacturer Bluegreen, with a diameter of 55 meters, a height of 17.5 meters, and a water capacity of 22000 cubic meters.

After the equipment arrives, SalMar company plans to raise 200000 salmon with an average weight of 2.5 kilograms. After being fattened and raised to 5.5 kilograms, they will be harvested and listed.

Bluegreen CEO Nils Johan Tufte commented, “Now the real fun is starting. We need to verify whether our ideas can succeed, improve the health and quality of salmon through Marine Donut farming, and ensure the profitability of producers

In 2019, the Norwegian Fisheries Agency issued two development licenses for the Marine Donut concept. SalMar began taking over the project in 2022 and invested in the construction of the first Marine Donut in April of the same year.
